I need to say this plainly, because I can’t hold it in anymore.
I am so tired of watching people I love suffer. Through anxiety. Through stress that never lets up. Through identity struggles and mental health battles they’ve gotten so used to that they think it’s normal. That it’s just how they are meant to live their lives. That it’s just the cost of being a working adult, a mom, or an everyday woman these days.
It’s not. It was never supposed to be.
And I want to be careful here, because I need you to hear my heart. This is not me being angry at you. If you’re in the thick of it right now, if you’re doing everything you know to do and still waking up heavy, I am not throwing a stone at you. You are the person I’m writing this for.
My anger is pointed somewhere else entirely.
Because here’s what I keep running into, and it makes me furious. There is an entire economy built around keeping us exactly where we are. A whole machine that runs and profits off of you running round and round on a hamster wheel. It reaches for the quick numb first and the real root cause never. It hands you a bandaid and empty promises, quick fixes that end up causing more issues than they solve, and it never once asks what your body and your soul were actually designed to need.
And the cruelest part? It sells you the incomplete answer as the whole answer. It doesn’t know the difference between covering a symptom and healing a wound, and it doesn’t care to know, because you feeling better all the way through was never the goal. You coming back next month was.
I’m not naming names. I don’t have to. You know exactly what I’m talking about.
I get genuinely angry about it. Not the polite kind. Because I don’t believe for one second that this was ever meant to be our normal.
Here’s the thing underneath all of it, the thing that actually breaks my heart.
Every single person is a miracle. An actual, deliberate, made-on-purpose miracle. Some of us came into this world in more obviously miraculous ways than others, but not one of us is an accident. You were designed. Knit together with intention. Given power and purpose that were meant to be used.
And what I watch happen, over and over, is that miracle getting dimmed. Distorted. Talked out of its own strength. Convinced it’s a problem to be managed instead of a wonder to be stewarded. I watch people who were made for so much settle into a fog and call it their personality.
And something in me just goes no. No. You were made for so much more than this. The enemy is robbing you of your true, God-given potential and I am not okay with it.
That’s not what being God’s Masterpiece is supposed to be like. I refuse to keep pretending it is.
So here’s what I want to say, as plainly as I know how.
Take out your Bible. Read it every single day for a year.
Not skimming a verse before bed. Not half-listening to an app while you scroll something else with the other eye. Really reading it. (I’m writing this while I’m supposed to be doing exactly that, so believe me, I’m preaching to myself here too.)
And I’m not saying this just because it sounds nice. I’m saying it because I’ve lived it. I’ve done this before, and I’m doing it again right now. And it has completely transformed me both times I really made it a priority and stuck with it. I’m not exaggerating and I’m not being dramatic. He has called me into things I never in a hundred years would have pictured for myself. (I wrote a whole other post about one of them, how He called me into leadership when I spent my entire life believing I wasn’t capable. That didn’t happen overnight. It came from showing up in the Word, day after day, until I could actually hear Him.) He’s even changed my mind about things I was dead certain on. Things as big as whether I’d ever want children at all. (That’s a whole story for another day, but yeah. He moved that too.)
This isn’t theory for me. It’s the most consistently true thing I know.
And listen, the second you try to commit to this, the enemy is going to throw a hundred distractions at you. The phone. The noise. The sudden urgent everything. He fights this exact thing so hard, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. I think it’s because he knows precisely what’s at stake if you actually do it. He is not afraid of your good intentions. He is afraid of who you become when you’re fueled by God’s Word and walking in the fullness of your God-given potential. That version of you doesn’t stay quiet. That version of you can’t be controlled, can’t be numbed, and can’t be kept small. And he will do everything he can to keep you from ever finding that out, because the second you do, everyone God placed around you starts getting impacted too.
Now let me be clear about what I’m not saying, because culture loves to flatten this into something I never said.
I am not telling you to throw out real help. I am not telling you to ignore the wisdom God has put in the hands of people trained to steward it. Getting support is not weakness and it never was.
What I am saying is that the world will hand you the bandaid and stop there. It’ll offer you the thing that quiets the symptom and never once point you toward the actual source of peace. And I don’t want that for you. I want you to have the WHOLE thing. The plant AND the roots, not just what’s plucked from the surface. God gave us SO much more than a pill and a hamster wheel to run round and round on. He gave us real nourishment, real rest, real community, and His own living Word. The machine ignores all of it because there’s no profit to be gained in you being truly free.
And one more thing I want to be clear on. Our God is a God of miracles, YES. But this isn’t about waiting for a lightning bolt or expecting your whole life to flip overnight. This is about starting with ONE step. READ THE BIBLE FIRST. Then God will reveal to you what changes you actually need to make. He’ll show you, in His timing, not all at once and not before you’re ready to hear it.
I don’t think a year in the Word makes the hard days disappear. Life doesn’t stop being life. You’ll still hurt sometimes. But I do not believe you’ll be carrying the same weight, in the same way, that you’re carrying right now. I think something in you shifts when you stop conforming to a “normal” that was quietly killing you, and let God renew your mind instead.
So that’s my challenge. To you, to me, to us all. A year. Every day. No skipping, no halfsies.
Not to be harder on yourself or to add one more thing to your plate (THIS is what you should be adding, not whatever that other thing is that’s already on your calendar). But to refuse to settle for a counterfeit normal that was never part of God’s design or plan for your life.
And I have too much fight in me to stay quiet about it. For my family. For my daughter, who is watching me decide what’s normal. For every person I get to touch, whether it’s here on a screen or face to face. It is not supposed to be this way. And I’m done pretending it is.
Because this is the whole thing, isn’t it.
It’s a way out. A door the machine really doesn’t want you to notice is unlocked and FREE.
I’m not asking you to trust me. I’m asking you to trust Him.
Take the challenge. Then come back and tell me what you find still standing. 💪
And hey, because it’s me and you know how I am, I actually WANT to encourage you through this. So if you’ve never picked up a Bible before, or it’s been decades since you have, I’d LOVE to hear from you. To come alongside you. To pray with you and for you. Please don’t be afraid to reach out. Let’s be expectant of the incredible things that are about to change in our lives when we make this decision.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Romans 12:2
Take the challenge. Let’s see what’s still standing. 🤍
Ready to say yes?
Make Room for His Word.
I made a quiet little space to help you take the first step. Name where you are, why you’re saying yes, and the prayer on your heart. Then keep it in your Bible, or send it to me so I can pray for you personally as you begin. 🤍
